How to Live More Soulfully
Nov 08, 2024
LadiesâŠlike me Iâm sure many of you like to listen to soul music⊠remember the days of Funkadelic, and the Isley Brothers. But when was the last time you really listened to yourself? Not to your boss, your partner, your friends, or that nagging voice in your head telling you to check your emails for the 15th timeâbut to your soul? I know, it sounds a bit out there, but weâre living in a world where everyone seems to be rushing to keep up with expectationsâwork harder, earn more, be âonâ all the time. But somewhere in the middle of all that noise, somethingâs happened. More of us are waking up and thinking, âHang on⊠is this really what I want? Or am I just living on autopilot?â
Are you done with just âgetting by?â Are you craving something deeper, something more authentic? A recent survey found that 70% of people say theyâre looking to live a life that aligns with their values, beliefs, and intuition, rather than the norms or expectations of others. And if youâre reading this, I bet youâre part of that 70%, too. Believe me, life can feel like a constant theatrical performance sometimesâputting on the right face for work, saying yes to things you donât actually want to do. Trying to fit into a mould that was never designed with you in mind. But what if I told you that living soulfully means bypassing those scenarios? Itâs about tuning into yourself and asking, âWhat does my soul really want?â
A Story About Finding Your Soulâs Rhythm
As you know I embrace storytelling because itâs a space where we can all share our stories to learn about, laugh about and even cry about. A friend of mine, letâs call her Jane, spent years chasing a high-powered career. She had the plush office, the salary, the fancy dinners, and yetâshe was miserable. Suddenly she decided to quit her job but didnât tell any of her close friends until after. Not because she had a plan, but because her soul was screaming for something different. Today? Sheâs a yoga teacher, loves what she does, and says sheâs never felt more alive. The craziest part? Jane didnât lose herselfâshe found herself. Go Jane! But living soulfully doesnât always mean making huge life changes. Itâs about small, everyday shifts that align you with who you really are. Itâs tuning into what makes your heart sing and your spirit light up.
How Do You Actually Live Soulfully?
Itâs simpler than you think, I promise. Living soulfully starts with getting quiet and tuning in. Itâs that voice insideâthe one you sometimes ignore because it doesnât always make sense in a world full of to-do lists. But when you listenâŠthatâs when the magic happens.
- Start with your mornings: Instead of rushing out of bed and diving straight into the madness of the day, take five minutes for yourself. Whether itâs a cup of coffee, some deep breathing, or just sitting in silence, itâs about connecting with you before the world starts pulling you in different directions.
- Say no to what doesnât serve you: This is a big one. We often say yes out of obligation, but soulful living is about protecting your energy. If something feels off, trust that gut instinctâitâs your inner compass guiding you to what really matters.
- Tune into nature: I know, it sounds clichĂ©, but it works. A simple walk in the park or by the sea can reconnect you with something bigger than the daily grind. Plus, studies show that time spent in nature boosts happiness and reduces stress. Itâs like a mini soul reset!
Soulful Living Is For You (Yes, You)
Living soulfully doesnât mean becoming a hermit or meditating all day (unless thatâs your thing, in which case, go for it!). Itâs about letting your true self shine through in your everyday choices. Itâs about dropping the mask, releasing the expectations, and embracing what feels right for you. As one Storyteller said, âAuthenticity is a collection of choices that we have to make every day.â Itâs about the choice to show up as we are, to set boundaries, and to honour our deepest values.â
Iâm not suggesting you now go away and overhaul your life to live more soulfully. Start small. Listen to yourself. Do more of what makes you smile and say no to what drains you. The more you connect with your soul, the more your life will reflect who you truly are. And trust me, when youâre living in alignment with your soul, the world just feels lighter. The important thing is that your soul knows the wayâfollow it.
